1Password Introduces Location-Based Suggestions
1Password has launched "nearby items," a new feature that provides location-based suggestions within the app. This feature allows users to tag saved items, such as passwords, PINs, and secure notes, with specific locations. When a user approaches a tagged location, 1Password will proactively suggest relevant items in a "Nearby" card at the top of the app.
Beyond traditional password management, 1Password supports saving various sensitive data, including credit card information for autofill. The "nearby items" feature enhances this functionality by providing timely access to relevant information based on the user's location. For example, airport documents could be tagged to the airport terminal, or rewards programs could be linked to specific stores. One UI 7 also offers enhanced design features.
How It Works
- Users tag saved items with locations.
- 1Password suggests tagged items when users are near the associated location.
- Multiple nearby items are displayed and sorted by distance within the app.
While other apps may exist for specific needs like medical records or rewards programs, "nearby items" offers a centralized location for managing various sensitive data. This feature is currently available in 1Password labs and requires user activation. Similar to the rollout of Passkeys, it is expected to become publicly available after the testing phase.
