Apple's AI Rollout Faces Delays and Challenges
Siri's Conversational Upgrade Postponed
Apple's ambitious plans for a more conversational Siri, similar to ChatGPT, have encountered setbacks. Originally slated for iOS 19, this enhanced functionality is now delayed and may not arrive until iOS 20, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The delay stems from technical challenges in merging Siri's two existing backends into a unified architecture. Despite this, the new Siri architecture, 'LLM Siri,' is still expected to launch with iOS 19.
Apple Intelligence Sees Low Usage
Gurman also reports low user engagement with Apple Intelligence, suggesting the current feature set isn't resonating with consumers. Consequently, significant improvements to Apple Intelligence are unlikely in iOS 19. The focus remains on delivering the features announced last year, potentially pushing major Apple Intelligence updates to iOS 20 in 2027. This delay impacts the roadmap for several planned AI features.
iOS 18 Updates Still on Track
While the conversational Siri upgrade is delayed, three previously announced Siri features are still expected to debut with iOS 18.5 in May.
