WhatsApp Now Default Calling and Messaging App on iOS
Responding to antitrust concerns, Apple introduced new default app options in iOS 18.2, including for calling and messaging. WhatsApp now supports these features.
Users can set WhatsApp as the default by going to Settings > Apps > Default Apps, then selecting WhatsApp under Messaging and Calling. This functionality works with the latest App Store version (25.8.74).
Once set, WhatsApp will open when interacting with calling or texting elements within iOS, such as in Contacts or Maps. This update makes WhatsApp a more integrated part of the iOS experience, similar to encrypted RCS messaging efforts on other platforms.
