iCloud Vulnerability Allowed Access to Sensitive Data
A recently patched iCloud vulnerability, addressed in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 Sequoia, could have allowed malicious apps to access sensitive user data like contacts, location, photos, and more. The vulnerability exploited the Transparency, Consent, and Control (TCC) system, bypassing user alerts when accessing files.
Malicious apps could intercept files moved or copied within the Files app, saving them to a designated area and potentially transferring them to a remote server. This occurred without user notification, raising serious privacy concerns. The vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2024-44131 in the National Vulnerability Database.
