iPhone Users in EU Can Now Set Default Navigation App
iOS 18.4 Update Brings Long-Awaited Feature
Apple has introduced a default navigation app setting with the iOS 18.4 update, allowing users in the EU to choose alternatives like Google Maps or Waze. This change is in response to the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA). Find My Device offers similar location services for Android.
How to Change Your Default Navigation App
- Go to Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Default Apps.
- Select Navigation.
- Pick your preferred app.
Global Impact and Additional Updates
While this feature is currently exclusive to the EU, Apple has also introduced a default translation app setting for all users with iOS 18.4. This allows users worldwide to choose alternatives to Apple’s Translate app. This move mirrors some of the customization options available in Android 16's lock screen widgets.
