Gemini App Update: Keyboard Auto-Launch on Android

Google is rolling out a handy update for the Gemini app on Android. Your keyboard will now automatically open when you launch the app, making it faster to type prompts. This quality-of-life change streamlines the user experience, especially for those primarily using text input. The update doesn't impact other functionalities like voice input or Gemini Live, which remain accessible.

This feature is currently available in the latest beta version (16.4.36) of the Google app. It hasn't reached the stable channel yet. For those interested in foldable phones, check out the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7.

Additional Improvements

Along with the keyboard auto-launch, the Gemini app is also getting a "Talk Live about this" shortcut. This feature, available on supported devices, appears above the "Ask Gemini" field when uploading images or PDFs. It offers an alternative to the Gemini overlay. These updates come on the heels of other recent Gemini enhancements, including the rollout of Gemini 2.0 Flash and Flash Thinking. To stay updated on Google's software, see the February 2025 Google System Update.
