Gemini Extensions Enhance Google Messages, Phone, and WhatsApp
Google has launched Gemini extensions for Messages, Phone, and WhatsApp, integrating AI assistance into communication.
Messages Extension
The Messages extension allows users to send messages via voice commands, including composing, editing, and rewriting. It supports various prompts like sending to specific contacts, asking questions, and even requesting creative text formats like haikus. However, it cannot read or summarize messages, add media, or manage notifications. For alternative messaging options, see the Google Messages Guide for Verizon Message+ Users.
Phone Extension
The Phone extension enables making calls conversationally. Users can request calls to contacts, businesses, or organizations based on various criteria like location or cuisine. It also supports prompts for negotiating purchases over the phone. If you're considering phone upgrades, explore Top iPhone 16 Pro Alternatives in 2024.
WhatsApp Extension
As the first third-party Gemini extension, WhatsApp integration allows both calls and messages. Similar to the Messages and Phone extensions, it supports various prompts for contacting individuals and businesses. Availability
These extensions are enabled by default but may require a force stop of the Gemini/Google app to appear. While not as widely available as the Utilities extensions, they are rolling out to various devices and accounts.
