Google Maps is transitioning its cloud-based Location History, now called "Timeline," to an on-device storage system. This privacy-focused change means your Timeline data will only be stored on your phone.
Key Changes:
- On-device storage: Timeline data will be stored locally on your phone, enhancing privacy.
- Phone-specific data: Timelines will be unique to each device and won't sync across multiple phones.
- No web access: Your Timeline will no longer be accessible on the web.
- Backup and transfer: A new system will be implemented for backing up and transferring Timeline data between devices.
Data Migration:
Users will receive email, push, and in-app notifications regarding the change. They will have approximately six months to transfer their existing Timeline data. Inaction will result in data deletion. The rollout is gradual, and not all users have received the notification yet. For those interested in mobile gaming, check out Pokémon Go Cheats.
Additional Updates:
Google Maps continues to evolve with new features and improvements. Recent updates include options to report transit delays, a new teal accent color, a cleaner map design, and the integration of Gemini search, review summaries, and Q&A.
