Google Messages is revamping its media sharing experience with a redesigned UI that integrates the camera viewfinder and gallery.
Key Changes:
- Fullscreen Media Picker: The existing compact image picker will be replaced with a fullscreen UI that combines the camera viewfinder and gallery. This allows users to seamlessly capture new photos or select existing ones.
- Always-Present Gallery: The gallery is persistently displayed as a sheet at the bottom of the screen, even during image preview. This provides quick access to recent photos and folders.
- "Original Quality" Option: Users will be able to send photos and videos in their original quality, marked with an "HD+" icon. This complements the existing "Optimize for chat" option.
- Caption Support: A new preview screen allows users to add captions to their photos and videos before sending.
Potential Drawbacks:
- Cumbersome UI: The fullscreen media picker might feel less convenient than the current compact design.
- Unnecessary Merger: Combining the camera viewfinder and gallery could be an unnecessary complication.
