Google Messages Feature Rollout Update
Google Messages is constantly evolving, with several features recently launched or currently in testing. This update summarizes the latest developments, including new functionalities and interface changes.
Features Still Rolling Out (Beta)
- Camera and Gallery Integration: A redesigned image picker merges the camera viewfinder with recent photos, streamlining media sending. A new "Original quality" option allows for sending high-resolution images and videos.
- Magic Compose in Suggested Replies: Magic Compose and Magic Rewrite suggestions are now more visible, appearing directly in the suggested replies row.
- Double Tap to Heart/Thumbs-Up: A quick shortcut for reacting to messages with a heart or thumbs-up.
- Read Receipts Redesign: Read receipts now appear in a circle at the bottom-right of message bubbles, with timestamps and encryption status accessible via swipe.
- Dual SIM RCS Support: Improved support for RCS on devices with multiple SIM cards.
- Enhanced Scam Detection: An on-device machine learning model helps identify and filter potential scam messages.
- RCS Status Indicator Tweak: A minor change in the RCS status indicator.
Recently Launched Features (Stable)
- "Your Profile" Settings: Control who can see your name and photo in Messages.
- "Sending As" Profile Notice: A clear indication of the profile you are sending messages from.
- Screen Effects: Visual effects for specific messages, such as balloons for "Congratulations" or waves for "Going to the beach."
