Google Photos Introduces 'Undo Backup' Feature
Google Photos now lets you undo a device backup, removing all backed-up photos and videos from the app. This feature is useful if you no longer want your device's photos backed up to Google Photos. Related: Google Messages Guide
Importantly, this action only removes photos and videos from Google Photos; it doesn't delete them from your device. However, removed items will also disappear from albums, shared albums, search results, and memories. Even photos in the Locked Folder will be included in the removal.
How to Undo Your Google Photos Backup
- Open the Google Photos app.
- Tap your profile picture or initial.
- Go to Google Photos settings > Backup.
- Tap 'Undo backup for this device.'
- Confirm your understanding of the deletion process.
- Tap 'Delete Google Photos backup.'
After undoing the backup, the backup feature will be automatically disabled on that device. For more details, refer to Google's support article. This feature is currently available on iOS and coming soon to Android. See also: Get Backup Pro 3 Review
Other Google Photos Updates
Google also recently changed Partner Sharing, stopping automatic sharing of photos from third-party Android apps to reduce clutter. Manual sharing is now required. Related: Fixing iPhone 15 Pro Lag
