Google Tests Fullscreen Account Switcher in Gmail for Android

Google is rolling out a new fullscreen account switcher in Gmail for Android. This replaces the previous overlay design with a full-screen view, utilizing Dynamic Color theming.

The new switcher displays your email address, profile image, and a prominent "Manage your Google Account" button. Below this are options to switch accounts, add accounts, and manage device accounts. A storage used indicator and links to privacy and terms of service are also included.

While this design matches the web UI, it may feel excessive for a quick action like account switching. However, it offers greater visibility for some users. Power users can still swipe on the profile picture for quick switching. The impact on apps with settings in the account menu, like the Play Store, remains to be seen. This change is currently limited to Gmail version 2024.11.24.x and is not yet widely available. For more on Google's software updates, see macOS 15.2: A Major Update with AI Focus.

This new account switcher may impact other Google apps like xAI's Grok 2 and the Google Search app. It could also influence future updates to apps like the Pixel Phone app.
