Hyundai Remains Committed to CarPlay and Android Auto, For Now
Hyundai executive Olabisi Boyle has confirmed that the automaker will continue to support CarPlay and Android Auto in its vehicles, at least for the time being. This decision contrasts with GM's move to remove CarPlay from its EVs. Boyle emphasized Hyundai's commitment to providing customers with various options during this transitional period in the automotive industry. This approach mirrors Hyundai's strategy with EV charging, where they plan to transition to NACS while still providing CCS adapters. Similar to their continued offering of combustion and hybrid engines alongside EVs, Hyundai aims to cater to evolving consumer preferences.
Boyle drew parallels to the shift from CCS to NACS charging connectors, where Hyundai plans to offer adapters for both standards during the transition. She also compared it to Hyundai's strategy of offering both internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles alongside EVs, ensuring business continuity during the transition. While acknowledging the possibility of future alternatives, Boyle hinted at the potential for superior solutions beyond CarPlay and Android Auto. This suggests that Hyundai sees CarPlay as a temporary measure while they develop their own infotainment technology. Unlike GM, which abandoned CarPlay with the promise of a better alternative, Hyundai seems to recognize the value of offering familiar options. It's worth noting that Hyundai is not currently listed among automakers supporting next-gen CarPlay.
