Hyundai's eVTOL Startup Supernal Moves HQ to California
Supernal, Hyundai's electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) venture, is relocating its global headquarters from Washington, D.C. to Irvine, California. This move will affect approximately 5% of Supernal's workforce, requiring around 35-40 employees to relocate. While the D.C. office will maintain a focus on policy and regulatory matters, the majority of its staff will be impacted. This shift aims to improve inter-team collaboration and communication, according to Supernal CEO Jaiwon Shin.
The relocation comes a little over a year after Supernal established its D.C. office. The company also has an engineering headquarters in Irvine and an R&D center in Fremont, California. Despite this change, Supernal maintains its target of launching an eVTOL service by 2028. The eVTOL industry remains dynamic, with companies like Joby Aviation securing significant investments while others face challenges.
