iOS 18.2: Beyond Apple Intelligence

Camera Control Enhancements

iOS 18.2 brings several improvements to the Camera Control button for iPhone 16 users. A long press activates Visual Intelligence. Additional settings allow for double-click speed adjustments and autofocus/exposure lock. A new toggle requires the screen to be on for the Camera Control button to function. This setting is found under Settings > Display & Brightness.

Revamped Mail App

The Mail app introduces smart categories: Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. These categories, accessible as buttons at the top of the app, automatically sort emails based on content. All mail can be viewed by swiping left on the category buttons. This feature processes data locally on the device.

Volume and Lock Screen Updates

A new Volume Limit feature for the iPhone's built-in speaker is available in Settings > Sound & Haptics, affecting only media playback. The volume slider returns to the Lock screen during media playback via a toggle in Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual.

Default App Selection

iOS 18.2 allows users to set default apps for email, browser, passwords, messaging, and calling in Settings > Apps. While current app compatibility is limited, future updates are expected. This feature expands on existing default app options.

News+ Sudoku Puzzles

News+ subscribers gain access to daily Sudoku puzzles in three difficulty levels: easy, moderate, and challenging.

AirTag Location Sharing

iOS 18.2 enables secure AirTag location sharing via temporary links, accessible on any device. These links expire after 7 days or when the AirTag is reunited with its owner. Several airlines are integrating this feature into their lost luggage processes.

Charge Time Estimates

While not yet available in the current beta, iOS 18.2 may soon display charge time estimates, similar to existing Android functionality. This feature, discovered in code by 9to5Mac, could arrive with the official release or in a future update like iOS 18.3.
