New Mail Sorting in iOS 18.2
Apple introduced automatic email categorization in iOS 18.2, sorting emails into Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. This feature, similar to Gmail's long-standing system, helps organize inboxes and prioritize important messages. Users can switch between the categorized view and the traditional chronological list.
Missing on iPad and Mac
Despite concurrent updates for iPadOS and macOS, the new Mail sorting is absent. This limits iPad and Mac users to the standard chronological inbox. Notably, Apple demonstrated this feature on macOS during the Apple Intelligence announcement in October. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests resource allocation, not technical issues, caused the limited rollout. For more on Apple updates, see Troubleshooting iOS 18.2 Update Problems.
Feature Parity Expected
Apple typically aims for consistent core app functionality across devices. While no timeline is given, the new Mail features are expected on other platforms eventually.
