Apple to Discontinue iPhone SE and iPhone 14 Series in EU Due to USB-C Mandate

Apple will discontinue sales of the iPhone SE and iPhone 14 series in the EU by the end of 2024, ahead of the January 2025 USB-C charging port deadline. The affected models (iPhone SE 3rd Gen, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus) currently use Lightning ports, non-compliant with the new EU regulations. Read about the upcoming iPhone 17.

Rather than updating these models with USB-C ports, Apple has opted to discontinue them. This slightly shortens their typical sales cycle, as the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus would usually be available until the iPhone 17 launch in fall 2025. A new USB-C equipped, fourth-generation iPhone SE, resembling the iPhone 14 in design, is expected in Spring 2025. Learn about troubleshooting iOS updates.

Outside the EU, Apple is likely to continue selling the iPhone SE and iPhone 14 models until their successors are released. This marks the end of the Lightning port era for Apple devices. Find information on CarPlay issues.
