Lizcore Secures Funding to Enhance Climbing Gym Safety and Gamification

Spanish startup Lizcore has raised €600,000 in pre-seed funding to further develop its innovative technology for indoor climbing gyms. The system uses NFC bracelets, smart holds, and an app to track climbers' progress and gamify their experience. This offers a social element similar to what's available in other sports through wearables and fitness apps. Read more about tech and social interaction.

Route Tracking and Safety

Lizcore's system allows climbers to track their routes without carrying their phones or other bulky devices. The lightweight NFC bracelet interacts with smart holds and base units, capturing climbing data that can be viewed in the Lizcore app. The startup recently signed its first customer, a climbing gym in Catalonia, and plans to expand its reach.

Autobelay Safety Device

Beyond route tracking, Lizcore is prioritizing the development of a safety device for autobelays. This device aims to prevent accidents by ensuring climbers are correctly clipped in. It uses cameras and AI to analyze climber actions and trigger alarms if necessary. This focus on safety addresses a critical need in climbing gyms, where autobelay accidents can have severe consequences. Learn more about AI and safety.

Expanding Team and Future Plans

Lizcore's team has grown to nine people as they refine their hardware and software. The autobelay safety device is expected to be completed within the next 6-12 months. The company is also working on improving the reliability of its route tracking kit. They plan to make the autobelay safety system compatible with various autobelay brands and models.
