Extended Software Support for Pixel Devices

Google has expanded its software update policy for Pixel smartphones, offering five years of Android OS updates for Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold devices. This aligns these devices with the five-year support initially promised when they transitioned to Google's Tensor processors.

Previously, these phones were slated to receive three years of OS updates and five years of security updates. This change brings them closer to the seven-year support offered for the newer Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series. Read more about Pixel updates.

Update Policy Breakdown

  • 7 years: Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a, Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (OS and security updates)
  • 5 years: Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, and Pixel Fold (OS and security updates)
  • 3 years OS / 5 years security: Pixel Tablet

This official confirmation follows speculation after the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro were included in the Android 16 Developer Preview. While the Pixel Tablet retains its original update schedule, this extension demonstrates Google's commitment to long-term support for its flagship phones.
