Rivian EVs Get Google Cast and YouTube App

Rivian's Android Automotive-powered electric vehicles (EVs) just received a software update introducing Google Cast and a dedicated YouTube app. This marks the first integration of Google Cast in a vehicle, allowing users to stream content from over 3,000 apps like Disney+, Netflix, and Hulu directly to their car's display. The feature is part of Rivian's "Stream Connect+" subscription, but a free preview is available.

Key Features of the Update:

  • Google Cast Integration: Stream content from thousands of apps directly to the vehicle's display.
  • YouTube App: Enjoy a TV-like YouTube experience within the vehicle.
  • SiriusXM App: Access SiriusXM radio within the Rivian interface.
  • Climate Schedule (Gen 2): Schedule climate control for added comfort.
  • Improved Highway Assist: Enhanced lane changing capabilities with "Lane Change on Command."
  • Snow Mode: A new display mode optimized for snowy conditions.
  • Key Fob (Gen 2): A physical key fob is now available for purchase.

This update is available for both Gen 1 and Gen 2 Rivian R1S and R1T models. For more on Android Automotive, check out recent updates on Android 15 and explore the 2024 Holiday Gift Guide for other tech options. Learn more about Android 15's impact on notifications.
