Tap to Pay on iPhone Expands to the UAE

Apple has brought its Tap to Pay feature to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), allowing businesses to accept contactless payments directly on their iPhones. This eliminates the need for additional hardware and builds upon the recent launch of Vision Pro in the UAE.

How It Works

Using an iPhone XS or later running the latest iOS version, merchants can accept payments through their partner-enabled iOS app. Customers simply hold their contactless card, iPhone, Apple Watch, or digital wallet near the merchant's iPhone. Transactions are securely processed using NFC technology, similar to Apple Pay. For more information on Apple Pay, see Apple Pay Arrives in Egypt.

Partnerships and Availability

Adyen, Magnati, and Network International are the initial payment platforms supporting Tap to Pay in the UAE. Developers can integrate the feature using an API available in iOS 15.4 and later. The service supports major payment networks like American Express, Mastercard, and Visa. This expansion follows launches in several countries, including the US, UK, France, and others.
