TECNO and Universities Partner to Enhance Smartphone Imaging for Saudi Consumers
TECNO is collaborating with the University of Leeds and Dar Al-Hekma University to improve the accuracy of mobile imaging for Saudi consumers. This partnership aims to expand TECNO's Universal Tone technology, which focuses on capturing diverse skin tones.
The research will involve developing a skin tone database specific to Saudi Arabia, collecting and analyzing a wide range of skin tones. This will lead to the creation of new skin tone patches calibrated for the Saudi market, improving color accuracy and authenticity in TECNO's imaging technology. The project will also fine-tune image processing algorithms to cater to the unique characteristics of Saudi skin tones.
Professor Kaida Xiao from the University of Leeds and Professor Ahmed Nasseraldin from Dar Al-Hekma University are leading the research. They emphasize the importance of capturing diverse skin tones, particularly in emerging markets like Saudi Arabia. Similar efforts are being made by other smartphone manufacturers to improve image quality and representation.
This collaboration builds on TECNO's previous partnerships with universities to establish a global standard for inclusive imaging. The company also launched the #ToneProud campaign to highlight the importance of accurate and inclusive mobile imaging. This aligns with TECNO's "Glocalization" strategy, which adapts global technologies to meet regional needs. For more on mobile technology trends, see Best Android Smartwatches of 2024.
