Threads is now testing a feature that allows users to set their Following feed as the default, addressing a long-standing user request.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the test, which includes options for "For You," "Following," or a custom feed as the default. This follows the recent introduction of custom feeds, enabling users to curate content based on specific topics or profiles, similar to Sill's aggregation feature.
This update comes as Threads faces competition from Bluesky, a decentralized social network with over 20 million users. Meta aims to retain users by responding to feedback and offering desired features. The platform recently adjusted its "For You" algorithmic feed to show more content from followed accounts.
Zuckerberg expressed interest in observing user adoption of the new default feed options. The feature is currently rolling out to select users. Despite a substantial user base of over 275 million monthly active users, Threads faces growing competition, especially from Bluesky, which is gaining on Threads in daily active users, according to Similarweb. This move could be seen as a response to the Threads customization options and the increasing demand for personalized feeds.
