United Airlines Integrates Apple's Share Item Location for AirTags

United Airlines now integrates with Apple's Share Item Location feature, allowing passengers to share the location of their AirTagged luggage with customer service via the United app. This aims to streamline the process of locating mishandled bags, improving the experience for the small percentage of travelers affected by delayed luggage. This builds upon existing use of AirTags by travelers to track their luggage, as seen in various reports of lost luggage incidents.

How it Works

With iOS 18.2 or later, passengers can share a tracking link directly within the United app when filing a delayed baggage report. Customer service agents can then track the bag's location to expedite its return. The passenger can disable the tracking link once the bag is retrieved. This feature enhances the utility of AirTags for travel, offering a more efficient way to manage lost luggage situations.

Wider Adoption of Share Item Location

Apple announced this feature last month, partnering with over 15 airlines, including United, Delta, Lufthansa, and British Airways. This collaboration aims to improve baggage tracking across the industry.
