WhatsApp Beta Adds Social Media Profile Links

Easier Sharing and Enhanced Privacy

WhatsApp's latest Android beta update (version 2.25.7.9) introduces a new feature allowing users to link their social media profiles directly to their accounts. This simplifies sharing profiles and connecting with contacts on other platforms. Initially, only Instagram is supported, with plans to expand to other platforms like Snapchat in the future.

The Instagram profile link appears at the top of the chat info page, enabling one-tap access for contacts. This streamlines the process, eliminating the need to manually send profile links. For more on app updates, see Android Auto 14.0 Beta.

Privacy Controls

WhatsApp prioritizes user privacy by offering granular control over link visibility. Users can choose from four options:

  • Everyone
  • Only contacts
  • Specific contacts
  • No one

These options provide flexibility and ensure users can manage their online presence effectively. Similar privacy features are discussed in Find My Device Update: Location Sharing.

Beta Rollout and Future Updates

Currently, this feature is available to select beta testers in the Google Play Beta Program, with a wider rollout planned in the coming weeks. WhatsApp is also testing a status-saving feature, allowing users to save their own status photos and videos directly to their devices. This eliminates the need for third-party apps and simplifies content reposting. For more on Android updates, check out Android 16 Beta 3.
