Gboard Update: Dynamic Color Theme Gets a Refresh
Visual Changes for Consistency
Google has updated Gboard's Dynamic Color theme, creating a more unified look across devices. The update simplifies the color scheme, using the same color for function keys like Shift, Emoji/Comma, Period, Backspace, ?123, and Enter. The top-left 2x2 grid icon also adopts this color.
Subtle Shift in Vibrancy
While the update enhances visual consistency, the Dynamic Color theme may appear slightly less vibrant depending on the user's wallpaper. Dark mode users will notice a darker keyboard, potentially improving readability in low light. These changes affect both phones and tablets.
Rollout and Availability
The update initially appeared in beta last October, gradually reaching the stable version. With Gboard version 14.9, it's now widely available in both channels. Users can force stop the app and toggle system themes to prompt the update.
New Icon in Beta
Beta users will see a redesigned 2x2 grid icon. The icon is now fully filled, distinguishing it from the voice search icon. This change further refines Gboard's visual clarity.
Enhanced User Experience
These updates prioritize a cleaner, more consistent design for Gboard. The changes aim to improve the user experience while maintaining Android's Dynamic Color theme. For related updates, check out February 2025 Google System Update.
This update aligns with the design philosophy seen in the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Vivo V50, emphasizing a cohesive user interface.
