Google Messages Redesigns Text Field Again

Google Messages has implemented another redesign of its text field, aiming for a more streamlined user experience. This latest iteration features a left-aligned text field with rearranged buttons. The Plus button remains on the left, followed by Magic Compose, Emoji, and Gallery. The Voice Memo/Send button sits outside this grouping. After text entry, only the Plus and Emoji buttons remain.

This change follows a series of redesigns earlier this year. Initially, Google introduced a pill-shaped compose field with various buttons, but this was reverted back to the older, cramped design. This new design seeks to address the previous versions' shortcomings. For more details on Google's approach to messaging, see Samsung's 2025 Foldables to Feature Larger Displays.

Key Updates

  • Left-aligned text field.
  • Reordered buttons: Plus, Magic Compose, Emoji, Gallery.
  • Voice Memo/Send button remains separate.
  • Simplified button layout after text entry.

This update also includes a redesign of read receipts in the main message list, though this feature is not yet consistently appearing within conversations. It's hoped this latest design will provide a more user-friendly experience.
