Google Photos for Android Gains 'Undo Device Backup' Feature

Google Photos for Android now allows users to undo device backups, removing photos and videos from cloud storage while keeping them locally on the device. This feature, previously available on iOS, is now accessible in Google Photos version 7.18 for Android.

How to Undo Google Photos Backup on Android

  1. Open the Google Photos app.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial.
  3. Go to Photos settings > Backup.
  4. Scroll down and tap 'Undo backup for this device.'
  5. Check the box acknowledging the deletion of photos and videos from Google Photos.
  6. Tap 'Delete Google Photos backup.'

This action removes backed-up media from cloud albums, shared albums, search results, memories, and the Locked Folder. The photos and videos remain on your device. Backup is disabled after this process. This feature is useful for users who no longer want all their device photos backed up to the cloud.
