Access Google Play Collections Faster with New App Shortcut
Quick Access to Curated Content
Google Play Store now offers a quicker way to access Collections, its curated content feeds. Instead of relying on homescreen widgets, users can now utilize an app shortcut.
How It Works
Long-pressing the Play Store icon reveals a “Collections” option. Tapping this launches the feed directly. Users can also create a homescreen icon by dragging the shortcut. This also enables access through device search functionalities.
Availability
The feature is currently rolling out with Play Store version 44.8.15, though it has a server-side component. Version 44.9 will bring Collections to Android 10-12 in the US. For more app-related news, check out HappyMod iOS Alternatives and Cautions.
Background
Previously, accessing Collections required a homescreen widget, which could occupy significant space. This update streamlines access, making it more convenient for users to explore curated content. This improvement aligns with Google's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience, as seen with updates like the Pixel Battery Health Feature. For those interested in other Android updates, Android 16 Beta 2 introduces a new user switching widget.
