WhatsApp Introduces Virtual Dial Pad for iOS

WhatsApp has introduced a new virtual dial pad feature for its iOS app, allowing users to call any registered WhatsApp number directly by typing it in. This feature, already available on Android, eliminates the need to save the number in contacts beforehand. Similar to other messaging apps, this enhances the calling experience within the app.

How It Works

The dial pad functions like a regular phone keypad. Users navigate to the Calls section, tap the green phone button, and select "Call a number." However, unlike some native dial pads, it currently lacks autocomplete functionality, meaning users must manually enter the full number. The feature only works for numbers linked to a WhatsApp account, excluding calls to standard business or public numbers. For users interested in other productivity tools, check out TechniCalc.

Availability and Future Plans

Currently, the dial pad is exclusive to WhatsApp's beta program on TestFlight, requiring the latest beta version. While there's no official release date for the stable version, its arrival on iOS brings parity with the Android experience. This aligns with WhatsApp's ongoing efforts to improve its calling features, as seen with the updates to the Pixel Phone app. This simple yet practical addition streamlines the calling process, offering a more convenient way to connect with contacts.
