Sill, a new link aggregation service, helps users track popular links shared on decentralized social media platforms like Mastodon and Bluesky. Similar to Twitter's now-defunct Nuzzel (currently "Top Articles" for X Premium subscribers), Sill identifies trending links among your followers.
Sill connects to your Bluesky and Mastodon accounts using secure protocols, aggregating the most shared links and displaying related discussions. Users can customize their feeds by muting specific phrases, domains, or accounts. Threads also offers feed customization.
Developed by Tyler Fisher, former CTO of The 19th and software engineer at The Washington Post, Sill prioritizes transparency as an open-source project. Future paid plans will offer advanced features like custom lists, analytics, and multi-account support. For those interested in other social media updates, Instagram now offers live location sharing in DMs.
Sill's launch coincides with X (formerly Twitter) seemingly deprioritizing links in its main feed. X owner Elon Musk suggests adding links in replies instead. This shift further differentiates Sill, catering to users seeking a link-focused experience. Google Photos has also updated its web interface.
Currently in public beta, Sill may experience performance issues or bugs. The service aims to provide a streamlined way to stay informed about trending topics on alternative social media platforms.
